Old Velvet Kitty

This old velvet kitty was manufactured in the late 19th/early 20th C.    Her body length is 7 ½ inches long with another 3 inches of tail. She stands 8 inches tall and is about 3 inches broad about the chest.

While her firmly stuffed, straw-filled body is covered in a mustardy golden velvet her underside belly and legs are covered in a cream cotton flannel of the day.  She retains her original cotton floss stitched nose and mouth, and one glass eye – her right or the smaller of the two.  The replacement eye is an oldie.  Her right ear has come away from her head in two spots: top and bottom, but is still firmly attached.  There is also evidence that she had a squeaker in her abdomen, as most of these toys did, but it no longer works.  She is machine-sewn with some hand finishing and does not have any rips, holes or tears over her body.

Overall, her condition is very good.  Her uneven size eyes give her character and she would add charm to anywhere or with anyone she is displayed.  She makes a lovely pet to stand beside a large cloth doll!
