Late 19th C Amish Cloth Elephant

Presented for your consideration is one of the most charming cloth elephants I’ve had the privilege to own in a while.

Measuring 11 ½ inches long by 8 ½ inches tall by 5 inches broad, his body is fashioned out of a caramel cotton twill and stuffed with cotton batting.  His tail is “rolled” out of fine caramel colored linen.  He is both treadle and hand sewn and stuffed with cotton batting.  While he does show some signs of wear and repair attendant with age and use, he still retains his original shoe button eyes.

Late 19th C cloth elephants of this caliber are highly sought after by collectors,
as they are difficult to find.

While this prized pachyderm’s quirky and gentle countenance makes him able to be displayed as a lone folk object, he also would make an extra special addition to a collection of these folky cloth works of art.
