This sweet and quite expressive old girl came to me via another dealer who was liquidating an estate.  t was found in a plastic bag dressed in an infant undershirt and crude muslin diaper.

Measuring 22 inches tall and 5 inches from shoulder to shoulder, her body is made out of homespun linen and stuffed with either sawdust or pine needles. Her head, fashioned out of homespun linen as well, is stuffed with cotton batting.  Inspection tells me this is her second face/head as the linen is secured over her shoulder plate such as a china doll's would be but also tied with a piece of homespun cord around the neck as well. She is jointed at the knees, and has a big toe on each foot. There also appear to be vestiges of crudely appointed fingers.
She has a simply and charming inked face.

The heir to the estate said the doll belonged to her grandmother and was made for her in the late 1800's which would be "right" for this doll appearance and construction.

I have added the clothing that I found to fit her, but I am sure she would really sing in a wonderful brown or blue calico frock and a nice pair of socks.

Losing her home has been a traumatic experience for her. She seeks to be adopted into a good and loving home.
