This is another one of those of those old “home made” creatures patterned after their German store bought flannel cousins.  I thought, at first, she might be manufactured but under closer examination I found that not to be true.

Quirky puss’s body is fashioned out of a natural cotton flannel, the nap of which has been rubbed gone a long time ago.  Her underbelly is made of natural plain wave cotton, and she is machine and hand-sewn.  Measuring 6 ½ inches at her tallest and 9 inches from tip of nose to tip of tail, she is hard stuffed with straw.

She still retains her slightly askew cotton floss nose and mouth, and her mourning pin eyes, but alas her ears have vanished long ago.  She is in excellent condition with some signs of wear attendant with age and use.  The dowels in both her front legs have come through at the paws, and actually help to stabilize her when standing.

You will note that I photographed her with a remnant of a piece of indigo wrapped around her neck, as this was how she came to me all those years ago. Removing the wrapping exposes a wonderful homemade thin oilcloth collar that is attached to her neck by two upholstery tacks.

She is funny and loveable, and another of my treasured waifs.  It’s time for find her a new somebody to love her!
