As pen wipes go, this is the “cat’s meow”…no pun intended.  The skill of the artist is quite evident in this theorem painted velvet piece.

Measuring little over 2 ½ inches high by 2 ¼ inches wide, it is a little marvel of artistic endeavor, reminiscent of the little velvet stuffed animals produced during the same time period.

Lovely puss still retains her brass bell and remnants of the cotton floss that once attached it.  Somewhere along its life the bell and remnant were secured with heavy thread.

The back of the piece is a soft kid, which has aged and mellowed over time.  It is nice and supple and shows no signs of use – ever - as that for which it was intended.  It might have been given as a gift and cherished as the prize of craftsmanship that it truly is.

Ever so folky and quite charming, I purchased this at the Dealer’s Show in New Hampshire this past summer.  Couldn’t make up my mind whether to keep it or to sell.  I’ve enjoyed for a little while, now it’s time to pass it on to grace a collection, or to be loved as a single and most stunning piece of folk art!
