First the description: late 19th C straw-stuffed golden mohair cat with original glass eyes and remnants of a floss nose and mouth.  He measures 19 inches long from tip of nose to tip of tail ,or 12 inch body length plus a 7 inch tail. Her ears are devoid of mohair, and lined with heavy ribbed satin.  She retains 90% of her mohair nap overall and is in excellent condition.  His satin ribbon collar and bells were added later.

Now, the story: I purchased this from its elderly owner in the early eighties right before he died at the ripe old age of 91. He told me that it had been his since he was a baby and had always been his favorite toy because he dearly loved cats. He had a beloved feline companion when he was a child, and was so inconsolable when it died that his mother cut some of the whiskers off of dear “Stevie” and poked and glued them onto his stuffed cat’s face so he would always have a reminder of his sweet companion. Hence, the small holes in this cat’s forehead that are hardened from glue with a few of “Stevie’s” whiskers still remaining intact. Morbid story or lovely story and reminder of a mother’s compassion for a broken-hearted child?  I loved it!

At any rate, “Stevie” is being offered to a good home as I am ready to pass on his care to another who will cherish his story as much as his charm.
