One of my first loves, in addition to textiles, has always been books and paper ephemera. I started collecting early children’s books as well as natural history and ornithological studies. So, it is with great pleasure that I am offering some wonderful finds with this update.

May I present “Rosebud”, a late 19th C McLoughlin paper doll. Darling girl is 5 ½ inches tall and in very good condition. She comes with the paper envelope in which she came as well as 5 outfits of the period. All are in very good condition with some evidence of minor wear attendant with age and use. I do not think this is a complete set as there is mention of “head-dresses” although there are none present. As she was played with, it’s a wonder that she survived at all.

McLoughlin and Co. produces high quality chromolithography and is well known to collectors of paper toys, games and books.

I just think she is charming! She would be great to copy and use as place cards at a high tea or dinner.
