Metal Crow Decoy

I must confess that I know very little about this piece other than that it is a crow which, I am sure, was used as a decoy.

Made out of thin sheet metal and measuring 16 inches long from tip of beak to tip of tail, 8 ¾ inches tall (with base add another  2 ¼ inches) and is about 6 inches wide with wings extended.  This crow’s wings collapse (one folding up the other down) to lay flat against its body for storage.  There is a spring on the base used to adjust height.  It is in excellent condition with some minor rusting attendant with age and use.

I am assuming this is a manufactured piece, although I can’t seem to find it in the Herter’s catalogue.  I also am assuming it dates to the first half of the 20th C but it could be earlier.

What I know is that I just love old crows and this one was part of my collection.  I haven’t seen too many others like it.  I just love the simplicity of shape and form.
