This charming little quilt is as sweet as sweet can be, not to mention folky as well.

Measuring a mere 8 ¼ inches wide by 9 inches in length, it is hand-stitched in wool yarn with a treadle edge on a fine hand-woven cotton.  As you can see by the photos, the images are quite wonderful: a milk pitcher, chair, “Lottie”, coffee pot, rocking chair, flower pot, house and bed.  All of these are done in a pale tan wool chain stitch on an equally pale ground.  It is naïve and primitive as having been done by a child.

It is in excellent condition with no holes, rips or tears.  There are a few bits of foxing on the back of the piece, but they are negligible and do not detract from its character.

Found in Kutztown, Pennsylvania at a site sale years ago, it has been one of my favorites for both its simplicity and its charm.
