This is a sweet little piece I found a while ago: embossed paper-covered cardboard compartmentalized sewing box.
As you can see by the photos, the outside is enchantingly embellished with a charming litho of two children and a cat. Do note that the little girl is holding her dolly in her lap and looks as if she was reading to her before the young gentleman behind her interrupted. By the look on her face, it appears the interruption is a welcome one. Below them is the gold embossed “Sewing-Box”.
The interior lid is wonderfully decorated and, at it’s center, is a small mirror with beveled edge. Contained within are a few accoutrements of the sewing box including a bone thread winder, bodkin, punch, threads and velvet pincushion.
Said box is 6 ½ inches wide by 5 ¼ inches deep by 1¾ inches high.
Condition is very good with some signs of wear attendant with age and use.
This would make a nice addition to a large doll’s sewing vignette as well as simply a nice display piece for any collection.
