As I have been going through my collections and paring down certain ones, I have to say that it has been a bittersweet journey.  In this update I am parting with quite a few of my favorite old friends, many unique in their form and construction.

This feline is one such piece.  On the exterior she appears to be just an ordinary (cover her ears!) mohair-covered feline with shoe button eyes.  Ah but placed between her lower haunches is a music box that place a sweet and melancholy tune when they are gently squeezed together. What a rare and mystical creature she truly is!

Measuring 8 ½ inches tall, 5 inches wide and 2 inches broad with a 5 inch tail length she is covered in golden mohair.  The mohair still retains about 85% of its nap and she still retains her original button eyes and floss nose and mouth.  There are some signs of wear attendant with age and use as this puss was loved and played with.  There is one small hole in her left haunch (see photo) where a metal nail from the musical mechanism has poked through from years of use.  That having been said, it does not detract from the rarity of the piece.  I have collected all manner of cats and bears over the years and this is the only such operating mechanism I have ever encountered.

I can still remember the thrill I felt when the dealer whom I purchased her from first placed her in my hands all those many years ago at the very first Atlantiques City Show. She has been a dear and wonderful friend, but it is time to place her in the hands of another caretaker who will appreciate her uniqueness such as I have.
