For a cloth person, a find like this comes around once in a sweet while. And when it does, the heart jumps at the sight.

The fancy work and faggoting at the opening of this homespun linen shirt suggests that this shirt was more than just an everyday shirt, and probably was his marriage shirt. There are initials embroidered below the fancywork “HJW”. (Be still my heart!) The shirt measures 20 inches across the shoulder, has a 21 inch sleeve length and is 40 inches in length overall. It is in excellent condition with no holes, rips or tears.

The heavy tow grain bag reveals the name of the owner. (My heart is pounding!) It is stamped “Henry J Wambold”. Measuring 60 inches in length, it is in excellent condition. Both of these pieces were found at an auction on the Southern Lehigh/Northern Montgomery County border. A search of Mennonite church records found the “Wambold” name prevalent in the Montgomery County, PA area. As of this most recent writing, a good friend researched Henry “J” and found a marriage record for him in 1832.  The details of this provenance will follow.

This is a spectacular find and they are being offered together. If you need more information, please call or email.
