This is a sweet primitive piece that is all that is left of what must have been a simply fabulous dress. Nonetheless, it's pretty special in its own right.

Entirely hand-sewn of brown checked homespun cotton, it is lined with a cotton muslin of the day. Measuring 13 inches across the shoulders and 12 inches long, it sports a 24 inch waist.

The buttons have been replaced with period buttons. It has a stain (see photos) on the front which actually looks worse in the photos than it does in real view. It could probably be gently lawn soaked (I'm sure you know the cleaning method) away on a nice warm day.

It is a nice study example, for the homespun checked fabric alone. But better still, it looks great hanging on a peg rack amongst a collection of similar objects.
