This is one of several pieces I'll be listing that came out of the Catherine Shimer estate of Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania.

Fashioned out of solid green and brown (probably purple at one time) silk on two of its three sides, it is complemented on the third with a fabulous brown brocaded silk with aqua and salmon vines and leaves. Measuring 3 inches by 2 inches, it is stuffed with cotton batting and still retains its original silk floss tufts and twisted floss loop. It is hand-stitched in brown silk floss. There is a date that has been finely cross-stitched into the green silk of which the first two numerals remain: 18 and shadows of the latter can be faintly seen: 36.

It is in excellent condition for its age, probably for the fact that it was not used for pins.

I am not seeing sewing pieces of this age coming out of estates anymore, so this is a nice find. It will make a nice addition to any collection.
