This crib quilt, in the broken dishes pattern (I believe), was found in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania is very graphic in its appeal.

It measures 34 inches wide by 42 inches in length, and is hand-pieced with the blue and white calico which provides a nice contrast to the solid red cotton. It is hand quilted with the vertical borders being quilted in a diamond pattern while the horizontal borders are finished in a scalloped pattern. There is a thin batting between the layers.

Because the stitching is good, but inconsistent in size, I suspect that this was made by a younger hand, which makes it all the more charming. It dates to the late 19th/arly 20th C.

It is in very good condition with a little bit of soiling (see photos). I never got the time to “launder” it by laying it out on the dewy grass on a warm day, but I suspect that would be all it would take to lighten away the soil.

This hung on a wall in my stairwell for a bit where it always caught your eye. Graphic and bold, it will command attention wherever it is hung!
